Main Bathroom: A French-feeling Refresh
Saying au revoir to a neutral space and
bonjour to being surrounded by color.
Sometimes you get the itch. For something new. To be somewhere else. To change things up. To try something different. This is especially true for me. Especially lately.
So I decided to scratch all those itches in one colorful swoop with this main bathroom refresh. I’d been wanting to add some color to our classic, primarily white bath scheme for a while—and since I’d also been reminiscing about my last trip to Paris on my 10th wedding anniversary, I felt drawn to this soft and bright sage green, Benjamin Moore Cedar Grove.
Of course, at least in my home, it’s never as simple as just slapping some paint on. One thing seems to lead to another. Adding the green meant adding more black (on the shiplap behind the vanity) to create the right overall balance. Once we did that, the sconces had to be swapped out to match the updated aesthetic.
But let’s get back to this craveworthy sage color. I knew I wanted to maximize its impact—and the ceiling was calling its name…along with every bit of trim, every light switch plate, outlet and vent. We drenched everything in color to create an immersive experience that completely changed the feel of the space, adding a soothing, welcoming mood which is exactly what I was going for.
Then it was time to add some finishing touches!
A fun zig zag rug with an interesting shape in front of the shower and a color block rug in front of the vanity to bring in another pop of color—which I also carried through in the bath towels.
Now that it’s finished (at least in the short term), I’m looking forward to transporting myself back to the City of Lights with a good candlelit soak with a nice glass of wine and some Edith Piaf playing in the background!
